1. Come see the band perform on Akron's First Night celebration.  We will be at Polsky on Main Street, starting at 8:30! 
2. Help us celebrate our 30th year of bringing steelband music to NE Ohio.  Get your tickets now for our annual spring concert on April 10th, 2010.  Tickets are available at www.ejthomashall.com.  Our special guest artist will be the calypsonian Relator, who has a great new album with our old friend, Andy Narell.  The album is called "University of Calypso" and more information is available at www.andynarell.net.  Other special guests will also help us celebrate 30 years of steel drums in Akron!
3. There is also talk of another CD and DVD coming soon, along with a PBS broadcast of the concert!  Stay tuned!
4. Thank you to all who came to the "Stage Door" concert as part of the Kulas concert series.  We had a great time playing with the audience right there on stage with us! 
5. The Children's Concert Society fund-raiser, "Caribbean Summer Sunset," went very well also, raising over $2,000 for concerts in schools!
6. Special welcome to new freshman Joey Fox, Laura Runion, Jonathan Monacelli, and new grad student Sam McKenzie.  Laura and Sam are both former students of UA alumni!  Laura studied with Chad Kohler in Indianapolis, and Sam with Bob Ledbetter in Montana. 
7. Special thanks to Fleming's Steakhouse in Akron for hosting UA Steelband members on Thursday evenings this summer!  Hope we can do it again next summer!

Cliff Alexis honoured by NIU

1. Our friend and tuner, Cliff Alexis, received the "Outstanding Service Award" at Northern Illinois University.  Congratulations!  More information here.
2. Liam Teague to perform Jan Bach's "Concerto for Steelpan" with the Akron Symphony Orchestra! 
3. Our good friend and colleague, Liam Teague, will be making a very special visit to Akron in February when he performs with the Akron Symphony Orchestra at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron.  More information at www.akronsymphony.org.
